Elektric Animals celebrated the recent release of their EP “A Bear and The Bull” at Lost Lake Lounge on April 27 with support from Elyse Therose and The Mssng

A few days before the show at Lost Lake, I was able to interview drummer Will Hubert. What excited him about writing The Bear and The Bull was that it allowed him a chance to write music for the band, “I’ve primarily been a drummer my whole life, and drummers typically don't get to write songs unless you count 'Octopus's Garden' (The Beatles) and 'I'm In Love With My Car' (Queen).”

“A Bear and The Bull” was released on April 19 and represents the band’s “significant changes,” said Hubert. The concert ushered in a new era for the duo, “The only similarity between what we are now and what we were before this EP is Nick's voice.”

The EP is full of layered sampling and unique melodies create an energetic experience for listeners and those who were able to catch the show live. This was reflected in the performance of one of the singles from the EP “Ready to Go”. The first moments are the sound of a car starting up which turns into an opening pitch that matches the tone of the engine perfectly as the song starts.

Those in attendance had more time to  listen to  “Ready to Go” and they proved it by singing along. There is a natural call and response for the lyric , “Where did you go?” . This song just calls for it to be performed live.

Another song that was meant to be played live was the track “I Wanna Love You''. Listening to the song truly isn’t enough to appreciate it. This is one you need to experience.  People were dancing and singing along. It is one of the more streamed songs from the EP.

While this show was a celebration of Elektric Animal’s new EP, they also threw it back to some of their previously released songs., those being “Reckless” and “Come Clean”. The two tracks fit perfectly into the new vision for the band.

“Come Clean” in particular is a classic Elektric Animals sound.  It has a prominent bass line that carries the song which only helps to elevate Sander’s voice. That can also be said about all of the songs that Elektric Animals has released. Every element compliments each other. Even when some are more prominent, like guitar or vocals, every instrument serves its purpose.

While songs like  “Reckless” and “Too Soon” have a slower tempo, the energy of the crowd didn’t drop. This was partially due to the songs’ placement on the setlist, but it was also because of how captivated and focused the audience was.

Songs like "Is it Monday" or "Anything You Need" are reminiscent of 80's alternative rock. Their sound is so similar to that specific genre that they closed the night with a cover of Simple Mind’s “Don’t you Forget About Me”. It was a perfect way to end the night because with the new vision for the band, we won’t be able to forget about Elektric Animals

Between the sold out show, the singing and the dancing, it’s clear how much Denver loves Elektric Animals.

As you listen to “The Bear and the Bull”, Life can be tough, but everything is finite. Whether you're experiencing a rough patch or enjoying a good time, remember that it's temporary. Live in the moment, embrace the highs and lows, and most importantly, never give up on your hopes and dreams.

The show was brought together as a fundraiser for Youth on Record in addition to being a celebration of Elektric Animals’ newest release. According to their website, Youth on Record is an organization that aims to assist underserved youth through “education, music and community programs.” A portion of the presale tickets went towards YOR and people could buy YOR merchandise or make donations at the show.
