Dry Ice - UNDERBELLY EP Review

The first time I saw Dry Ice was at the Fox Theatre opening for The Velveteers, and I was blown away by their live show. I caught them again a few months later at Summit opening for Crumb, and Dry Ice once again proved to be a name I’d want to keep up with. Since those shows, I’ve had the pleasure of watching them consistently develop their sound and I’ve been looking forward to their next release, and it’s finally here!

The first track “UNDERBELLY” creeps in with dreamy guitars and vocals which slowly get submerged in a wall of fuzz that ticks every box of stellar guitar tone and production for me. I’m already sold a minute and a half into the EP. “DYSFIGURE” keeps the energy high and is sure to start an instant mosh pit as soon as the first drum hit. I love the sludgy ending to this track, and I need to hear this again on the loudest sound system available as soon as possible. The most recent single “BLOODSUCKER” keeps this thing rolling, with groovy bass lines, organ, and more excellent drumming. This track has already been on repeat for me since its release in January. The musicianship throughout this whole EP is insane, and Dry Ice has never sounded better. “UNMASCULINE” is full of catchy vocal and guitar lines, and I really love the section at the 1:17 mark. The last track is “CHOKE”, which was the first to release from this EP back in July of 2023, and I’m pretty sure it was in our Top 50 of 2023. In the context of the whole EP, it wraps everything up seamlessly. As soon as it faded out, I just started the whole thing over again.

Be sure to catch their next show in Denver on March 6th at Complex 24 with Gunk! & Diva Cup, and if you’re on the west coast catch them on tour this month!
