Replica City’s new EP brings listeners a gift….of KNIVES!

Replica City comes out swinging from the first drum hits of “Charming and Approachable”, blended perfectly with thick bass tones and crispy guitars. I love the way this track progresses from start to finish. As a bass player myself, I can’t not mention Matt’s bass tones on this EP enough. “Gift of Knives” starts with this overdriven, chorus-y tone that one can only describe as “scrongly”. Everything from Corey’s raspy vocals to Nate’s excellent snare drum tone amalgamate into a well-crafted batch of songs. Each song was engineered and mixed perfectly by Lauren Beecher (Power Goth, Broken Record) and mastered by Spenser Gralla (Sweeping Promises). “Rear-Fanged”, the first single from the EP, has been in rotation since its release on February 20th. The lyric “Default to cynicism, You’d think I’d be tired by now of being right” punches me right in the gut every time I hear it. The band pulls out an excellent cover of Violent Femmes “Kiss Off” that made me revisit their whole discography over the past week. The EP closes out with a remix of “Gift of Knives” by True Faith, who really knock it out of the park and elevate an already fantastic song with their own twist. The EP is packaged beautifully by bassist Matt Dunne, who also does the artwork for the band.

Be sure to catch them all over the state this weekend!
